Practical steps for threading lashing strapping:
1. Align the ratchet lock.
Unlocked: Ensure the ratchet handle is fully engaged (you'll hear a "click" sound).
Clear debris: Use your fingers to remove sand and broken wire from the lock slot—a single grain of sand can ruin a strap.
2. Find the correct threading path.
Key technique: "Bottom-in, top-out" → First insert the strap through the bottom slot of the ratchet box → Pass it under the metal roller (close to the shaft) → Finally, pull it out through the top outlet. Avoid incorrect threading: Wrong threading can tangle the fibers!
3. Inserting Techniques
Hard-End First: Insert the strap with the metal hook first (the soft end is difficult to guide).
Thumb Push: Use the knuckle of your thumb to push the strap over the roller (don't use your fingernail—it can scratch the strap).
Extension: Pull at least a palm's length from the top (any shorter will be difficult to hold).
4. Correcting Flaws
Flatten and Lock: After inserting the strap, straighten the entire strap—no wrinkles!
Rotate and Return: Gently turn the ratchet handle 2-3 times to allow the strap to naturally fit into the roller.
5. Force Test
Test for Engagement by Pulling: Without hooking the strap, quickly twist the handle 3 times—
listen for a clear, snapping sound.
Test for Lock by Pulling: Pull firmly on the strap's end—the strap should not budge.
