How to ensure lashing straps are used safely?

The Iron Rule for Safe Lashing Straps

1. Inspect Before Use
Check for Damage: Check the entire strap thoroughly—any signs of fuzz, cuts, or thread breaks? Scrap it!
Test the Buckle: Pull the ratchet several times and listen for the teeth snapping—is it sticking or slipping? Replace it!
Check the Hook: Is it deformed? Cracked? Rusted through? Don't risk your life!

2. Anchor Point: The Lifeline
Only Hang with "Steel Bones": Welded eyebolts, solid holes in the frame—plastic buckles, thin metal sheets, railings—they'll break if they break!
Hook-Facing Buckle: The hook tongue must face the inside of the cargo (the greater the tension, the tighter the lock).
Cutting Guard: Is the cable at a sharp angle? Use canvas or rubber padding—otherwise, it'll break instantly!

3. Key Tie-Down Techniques
Control the Center of Gravity: Is the heavy cargo leaning to the left? Add an extra strap to the right for balance.
Cross-Lock: A single strap will inevitably slip! Two straps cross in an X-shape to hold the cargo in place.
Avoid vital areas: Avoid pressing against electrical wiring, oil pipes, or vulnerable corners (use wooden planks to distribute the pressure).

4. Key Tightening Details:
No yanking! Stop when the ratchet handle reaches a 45° angle—a groaning sound is a sign of a break.
Re-tighten after rain: Nylon stretches when wet—re-tighten after half an hour of rain.
Lock the safety catch: Immediately engage the ratchet safety catch after tightening (to prevent accidental loosening).

5. Road Safety Habits:
Check the straps before departure: Press down on all straps manually—loose? Squeaking? Re-tie!
Check every time you stop: After 100 kilometers on the highway, check the strap temperature at a service area (hot = excessive friction).
Ready to cut the straps: Keep a hook knife in the cab—in the event of an accident, cut the straps in 3 seconds and escape.

6. Unloading Minefields:
Stand sideways! Always stand to the side of the ratchet when loosening the straps—frontal impact can result in a headshot!
Release tension slowly: After unlocking the belt, hold the end firmly and pull slowly. Avoid pulling violently.
Rewind without folding: Roll the belt into a coil and hang it on the wall—the fold marks will indicate the next breakage point.
